The VISA at long last

It has been months since I have written.  With Covid19 on the rise in Israel and the US during February and March, we were advised to hold onto our passports before mailing them off to the Jewish Agency in Chicago.  That office is the one responsible for receiving our request for a visa and sending that request onto the consulate of Israel in Chicago.

Finally on June 1st we received notice that we should send in our request, so off went our passports, along with all the appropriate paperwork for receiving a visa.

Our visas were issued on June 30th, after our friend, Robert Evnen (who is Nebraska's Secretary of State) placed a call to the Consulate and mentioned that our visas were waiting to be issued.  Lo and behold, they arrived here on July 3rd via FedEx.  Now we are officially able to make aliyah.

Of course that doesn't mean we are ready to hop on a plane and take off.  There is much to do.  Charlie has a car to sell.  We have wills to redo and get into order.  Thirty nine years of collecting items must be gone through, given away, de-cluttered.  We must sign a contract for a lift and figure out the timing of the transport from here to Ashdod, Israel and then to Jerusalem.

The emotions are certainly plentiful. The main emotion is joy at seeing a long-held dream becoming fulfilled.  The emotions which creep up on occasion are fear of the unknown, sadness over leaving family and friends.  It is not an easy thing we are doing but I feel it is an action based on conviction and love for our Jewish homeland.
